Pre-registration

We are anxiously anticipation the opening of pre-registrtaion for this years Origins. However, what I am dreading is the actual online pre-registration process. It has been a less than desirable event over the past couple of years. As a fact, it was easier for me one year to fax my pre-registration than go through the online miasma. So, what improvements are we likely to see this year to the online pre-registration madness??? Thanks Charlie

Great time! One (two?) complaint(s)

Really well run. Registration went fast and no problems with our event tickets. Couldn't ask for a better registration. I have one (or two) complaints though. We had 2 events where the GMs didn't show up. That's not Origins' fault, but something needs to be done about this. We got our money back - no problem there - but our time (which is much more valuable than $2.00) was wasted by these GMs. Very unprofessional. I would recommend that GAMA/Origins consider not letting these GMs/organizations participate in future Origins.

Hi GAMA and thank you for a problem free convention! This was my fifth year, and I had absolutely no problems pre-registering, getting my badge or event tickets, or attending any of my events from overbooking or wrong locations. Wait lines were very short and as far as logistics go, this was the best year yet! I look forward to attending with my wife again next year. Thank you again! Thomas

Badge ID?

Hey, this will be my first time coming to Origins (For Pokemon Nationals) and so I've got a few questions to be answered please: -I pre-ordered a Full Show Pass by before the deadline (May 25th), and I realize I must pick it up there. My dad paid for it via Credit card, but he won't be there. Will I still need some ID to show? If so, how? -I ordered the Full Show Pass online, whereas my friend ordered it from winning 2nd at Regionals. Is there a seperate line for picking up each of these badges? -I've heard that I can pick up my badge starting on the Tuesday before, but what about my friend? -Around what time on the morning of Nats should I be showing up? I've heard registration starts at 9:30, but should I show up at around 9? -etc. Thank you very much in advance for answering.

Hello I saw that we can't buy badges on Tuesday night, but I am a teacher and I don't know if that means I can get mine or not. Since I am not technically buying anything, or does that mean signing up new badges? I would come down to get it but I don't want to come down Tuesday night, only to find out I can't get my pass. Thanks in advance, Jamie

Fair Pass vs Full Access?

I am bringing my two children(Ages 6 and 10) to play in the Pokemon Nationals on Saturday. Can someone please tell me what type of pass they need? I am getting conflicting information. They will just be going to the tournament and maybe do some shopping. Also, what kind of a pass do I need to get to supervise them(I assume there will be an area in the room that they are in that I can hang out). Lastly, do they need to preregister to play in the tournament or do they just show up the morning of the event? Thanks so much for your patience with my ignorance. This is a new experience for us.

Buying a badge for another person at the door

Okay, here's another probably stupid question for you :) There are quite a few people in my area going to Origins for Pokemon Nationals. One of these people failed to pre-register himself and his son, and he's not getting there until very late Thursday night. He's worried mainly about his son being unable to play Nationals, since that's basically the whole reason for the trip. In the meantime, I am scheduled to arrive sometime on Wednesday. He wants to give me the money for himself and his son and have me buy their badges and event tickets. I don't know what the rules are for buying that stuff at the door (this is my first year at Origins), so I want to make sure this is even doable before I commit to doing it. He's willing to provide me with any paperwork necessary to authorize it, if that's what it takes. Please let me know if this is even workable, and if so, what I need to bring to make it happen.

Well, I, being the obvious cretin that I am, failed to get pre-registered in time, so I'm buying my full pass at the door on Wednesday. Someone told me that it's still $70. Someone else told me that it shoots up to like $100 or more. Don't know who's right, since all the pricing vanished from the web site along with the pre-reg. Just need to know how much to plan for.

Registration Apparently Not Working with Firefox

Hello- I've forwarded two emails to registration@gama.com concerning this issue, and haven't received a response. I have also attempted calling the listed number, and have not been able to get through. I recently attempted to order a badge for the convention, and when pushing the "PAY" button, the page never refreshed/switched. The requested events all remained in the cart for checkout, and no badge ever appeared for possible edit in the applicable section. I am wondering if the credit card is immediately authorized by whatever service GAMA is using to complete the transaction, so I can reissue my order through another browser, or if this is handled at some point after the request. If browser compatibility is a known issue, this would be good to note on the applicable pages. Having multiple badges waiting on me at the hall is not something I'm interested in dealing with. Thanks!

I use "advanced search", and put in event type is miniatures. It brings up 720 results, 16 pages worth. I can only ever view the first page (all of Wednesday and a little bit of Thursday). If I hit next page, it shows the same events. If I hit a number (like page 5 or whatever), it shows the same results. If I hit last page, it shows the same results. No matter what I do, it just shows the first page of results.
In the past the booths would be open as early as sometime the day before the 'official' starting of the convention. This year you state that the pre-reg booth will open at 7 am, with events starting at 8 am. Let me just predict that if this is the earliest the pre-reg is open...mass chaos and lines, delays, etc... will occur. I HOPE and strongly suggest offering pre-reg pick ups on the day before (Tuesday), possibly as early as mid afternoon. I KNOW we the gaming public will appreciate it. I know that this might be a bit difficult to staff, but needs consideration.

I haven't seen any official numbers (I don't think they're made public) but virtually everyone was saying that attendance was down sharply last year, and has been going down the past few years. Last year, we were sitting in Hall C and remarked that half of the hall was empty- and this was on Friday night!! Even the vendor area was a fraction of the size of previous years, so sponsorship seems to be suffering as well. I've heard outside reasons that might have contributed to last year's drop....it was 4th of July weekend, many weddings were held on 7/7/07. I can buy that to a certain extent, but there were many grumblings about the later registration, lack of feedback from customer support, and lack of content/updates to the website. Please take this as constructive criticism. I don't want Origins to slowly degrade to something less than a major con destination. I went to Marcon last year for the first time (incidently which is held in the same venue), and all I heard from anybody was how great Marcon used to be. I will give GAMA credit for a relatively smooth online registration process, and from what I saw the con itself was well run. Hopefully things will turn around this year, as Origins is alot of fun and would encourage everyone to attend. The very existence of this forum is a very positive sign.
