I've stayed at the Hampton for the past 2 years. The best thing about it is that it is right across the street from the Exhibit Hall. Very convenient for making quick stops in your room during the day. It is also next to North Market and the Japanese Hibachi restaurant to get food. The rooms are comparable to the Hyatt or Drury, but no fridge in the room. They do have the free continental/hot breakfast in the morning too.

Disadvantage is having to cross High St. several times a day, and no covered walkway in bad weather. They also are cranky about valet parking. When you check out on Sunday, if you want to keep your car in their garage past 2PM, they want another $10.

My husband and I have stayed at the Hampton the past 2 years and absolutely love it there. Its directly across the street from the main part of the convention center, which makes it great to run back across the street to grab something from your room or get a cup of coffee from the lounge. Their breakfast is fantastic as well. Another bonus to staying there is free internet.  We stayed at the Crown 3 years ago and it was a pain in the butt to walk all that way. If you needed to go back to the room, it took at least 30 mins.  Prior to that we commuted from the inlaws 40 miles away, or one year we stayed at a hotel quite north near the fairgrounds, and drove to the convention center every day.  I highly recommend staying at an attached hotel if you can.  Oh, another trick to save on parking if you stay at a place with expensive valet is to unload and then go park yourself in a garage or lot somewhere else at a cheaper rate. Now, that will only work if you do not plan to take your car out during the convention. We let the hampton valet our car the first year and it was almost $100 extra on our bill. Last year, we paid around $40 for parking it in a surface lot for the week (weds-sun).  On another note, I have stayed at the Hyatt for Marcon and was very disappointed, not only in their rooms, but in the elevators. We generally had to wait 15 mins for an elevator.

This will be my 5th year attending and every year but last I stayed at a further away hotel or roughing it on the floor at a friend's house in the city.  That meant coordinating rides into the convention and out again, and more often than not meant I couldn't plan early morning events, and had to wait for other people to finish their late night events (damn you Scooby Chuthulu! :) before leaving.

Last year I got my wife to attend for the first time, and we shared a room with 2 buddies at the attached Hyatt.  WE LOVED IT!!!  It meant no coordinating events, it meant that if I had tons of loot I could drop it off at the hotel any time of day, it meant a chance to relax if there was a gap in the schedule, and so on.  It was more expensive, but after spiltting 4 ways it wasn't that bad and totally worth it.  I don't think I'll ever go back!

We love the Hampton and this will be our 4th year staying there.  Very comfortable and there is no hotel closer to the exhibit hall or TCG hall.

I like the fact that the North Market is right around the corner and several other restaurants are right there (Barley's, Japanese Steak House, Kooma, ...).

They have a great free breakfast as well.

And the North Short shops and restaurants and easily accessible.

Downside - It's across the road.  I'm not comfortable with my kid crossing the road alone.
