Day of the Zulu

Chelmsford and friends get a surprising shock as the Zulus deliver a crushing attack on their encampment at the base of the great mountain, Isandlwana...and as if that’s not enough, carry on the carnage to a mission station named Rorke’s Drift about four miles away.  These “savages” provide a worthy adversary to the British who assume they are superior to anyone and anything.  It’s a typical Victorian attitude that will be sorely tested on January 22nd not only at these battles but in the South with Pearson attempting to cross the Inyezane River and Buller up in the North on Hlobane Hill.  Our game will deal with the twins: Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift!  The full affair of all four games is a whole show in itself.  A Duke Seifried event!

Raid for the Dragon’s Horde
For reasons of her own The Great Dragon Katara has suddenly abandoned her stronghold and gated away from Nanthe’ to one of the other Chaos Worlds; leaving her cave and treasure seemingly abandoned. As word of the unguarded dragon hoard spreads, dwarf raiders, Orc pirates, the mysterious Iron Wind Mercenaries, and desperate warriors from the other major races of Nanthe’ race towards the cavern, all trying to be the 1st to plunder the legendary Dragon’s hoard. Can your war-band brave the wasteland and capture the dragon-spoils? Can you hold it as your fellow war-lords dog your heels? And can you or anyone escape with your treasure before the Great Dragon returns? A beginners level skirmish fantasy war-game, using Iron Winds of War rules... This is a meat-grinder event, and will run all day at the Iron Wind Metals booth. Bring a ticket and show up any time – play to the last man... We have room for 12 players at a time, and newcomers can start as others leave.

Warhammer Fantasy Tournament
Fantasy Tournament Saturday 2250 pts The Olde World Warriors will be running The Fantasy Tournament at Origins again this year. This year’s Origins tournament will be a departure from the past few years and a reexamining of the best elements of the past 10 years of Grand Tournament, Rogue Trader and independent events experienced by our club members. The Olde World Warriors’ goal is to present a first class event that we hope will become the premiere Fantasy event in the Midwest. Having said this we value the opinions of our participants and will ask for their feedback after the event and strive to constantly reexamine our rules, making the enjoyment of our gamers our first priority. For complete rules go to oldeworldwarriors.com

Starmada Open Tournament

Starmada is a miniatures board game of starship combat. At its most basic level, players take command of space fleets in a general attempt to reduce each other to just so much space junk.

Old Glory & HMGS-Great Lakes Present Gordon Andrews’ Triumphant Trilogy, Historical Miniatures Gaming With Cinematic Excitement!
Gordon puts on one heck of a show, and he’s bringing three of his most popular and visual games to Origins. All of these games are fantastic for newcomers to come and discover the joys of historical gaming in 25mm scale.

•    55 Days at Peking Action! Romance! Live the Hollywood Epic!
•    Grey Sausage Down! A critical fuel situation forces zeppelin LZ59 down into French Equatorial Africa.
•    The Battle of Suakin. The Faithful driven to rid the Sudan of all non-believers by storming the walls of Suakin.

Rome & the Barbarians

The 1st Century Augustinian Legions were tough adversaries.  The Cohort has become the tactical element and when they can form up properly are unbeatable.  The forests of the Germanic areas cause great problems to these Legions as they get strung out while traversing from point to point.  The “roads” are not autobahns.  Wily Barbarian leaders have come to realize there is a way to defeat these foreigners by using the terrain...especially the wooded terrain.  A Duke Seifried event!

Aerodrome Ace of Aces
Using WWI models, players test their strategy and skill at shooting down their opponents while avoiding the same fate.  Easy, fast-playing rules.  Little reliance on dice makes players responsible for their own success or failure.  Players can win replica WWI medals while earning promotions and campaign bling!  New players are welcome.

Star Wars: Battle at Kessel
Set after the battle of Endor this is a fleet battle between the forces of the Empire and the forces of the new Republic.  The two fleets meet in the Kessel system, and must dodge asteroids as well as turbo lasers.  Take command of a task force, launch fighters and concentrate all fire on that Star Destroyer.

Cavalry in Flames of War
Gallop across the field with drawn swords and blowing bugles, supported by blazing machine guns. Many unsung heroes did. Now it’s your turn to take sides. Bring your horse artillery into action at the right time or your cavalry might run into their mounted maxims. Flames of War made up the rules for this chance to gallop through a civil war that pre-dated World War II by around 20 years and still excites.

Close Action Fleet Battle

Close Action is a tactical simulation of naval combat in the Age of Fighting Sail. Players command one sailing ship ranging in size from a small eight gun Corvette to a 130 gun ship of the line from one of four Navies. You will plot your ship’s movement, give orders to your sailors and marines, fire the Great Guns, and send signals to the rest of your fleet. Realistic movement and combat rules, as well as a limited communications system will make you feel like you are part of the real battle being simulated. Captains and Admirals needed!

Battle of Gettysburg, Fate of a Nation
Gettysburg, July 1863 On a hot July day the small town of Gettysburg witnessed the most important battle in the American Civil War. Over the course of three days the fate of a nation was decided. 160,000 Americans fought an epic battle that marked the turning point in the war. Come recreate this historic battle between the Army of the Potomac and the Army of Northern Virginia. Featuring over 3,000 15mm miniatures and fought over three days. Join us for 1 day or help fight in all 3. Can the south win at Gettysburg and move onto Washington or can the northern forces stop and preserve the Union. Brought to you by the Kanawha Riflemen, the WVHGA and HMGS Great Lakes.

Battle of Verdun
In 1916 the Germans planned an attack on the French fortress city of Verdun. Their aim was to “bleed the French army white” by inflicting so many casualties that France would be unable to continue the fight. Vowing that “they shall not pass” the French were eventually able to stop the German advance, and after ten months of bloody combat the Germans gains had been virtually wiped out. In the worst war in human history Verdun stands out as the worst battle of all. This game is designed to show the ferocity of the first days of the battle. This game is an excellent introduction to miniature wargaming as well as diversion for veteran gamers alike.

Red Shirts Know How to Fight, and They Know How to Have Fun!
The Ottawa Red Shirts are not mere fodder for the landing party! Far from it, they are long-time Origins supporters who bring a huge set of games for your enjoyment. They know how to run a great game, and their fans come back year after year just to sit at their tables and play everything they have to offer.  This year, their event list includes: Injurius “Keep What You Kill,” D12 Fantasy Battle, Silent Death, General Glen’s Combat Rules, and D&D with a tactical emphasis. Using terrain, game mastery, and a strong flair for fun, the Ottawa Red Shirts will make sure you are a happy gamer.

Sailpower
Fun Scale Combat in the Age of Sail is a fast-paced game where players take the role of ship’s captain using large 15MM-1/100th  scale miniatures. You can play as a naval captain, swashbuckling pirate, or even a privateer! Introduced to conventions in 2007, Sailpower plays great on anything from a table with a couple of smaller ships to the floor of an entire room with massive fleets!  For Origins 2008 the Sailpower crew has two play surfaces (8’X6’ and 13’X6’) representing the Caribbean and English Channel around 1813.  To make sure we have plenty of ships, the crew is bringing nearly 40 warships! In addition to the fleet, the convention play surfaces have island and other areas to explore. Check www.SAILPOWERGAME.com to see more!
