ImpendingDuff, led by professional miniature painter and instructor Neil “Duff” Duffey, will be hosting a range of hands-on hobby classes at Origins Game Fair 2026. These sessions are designed for all skill levels, from kid-friendly beginner painting experiences to more advanced classes covering glazing, lighting, and Object Source Lighting (OSL). Attendees can also explore speed painting techniques for tackling large backlogs and gain confidence with airbrushing through an in-depth introductory seminar. Each class focuses on practical skills, creativity, and helping hobbyists grow both their technique and enjoyment of miniature painting.

Kid Intro to Miniature Painting- A fun, hands-on beginner mini painting class made just for kids! All materials are provided, and Neil guides young artists step-by-step through painting their own miniature. This kid-friendly class focuses on creativity, confidence, and learning simple techniques while having a great time. Perfect for brand-new painters! Tickets
OSL (Object Source Lighting) in Miniature Painting- A hands-on class focused on Object Source Lighting (OSL). Duff will guide students through key techniques to improve one of the most challenging effects in miniature painting. Learn how to use saturation and contrast to create convincing glow effects—from warm fire to blazing plasma and lightsabers. A miniature is provided to paint and take home. All paints and tools are supplied; bring a size 2 round brush if possible. My Fundamentals of Light class is recommended prior, but not required. This is not a beginner level class. Tickets
Intro to Glazing for Miniature Painting- A hands-on introduction to glazing techniques in miniature painting. Learn how to thin and apply acrylic paints to create smooth color transitions, subtle shading, and rich depth. Each student receives a miniature, plasticard for practice, and a PDF outline to take home. All paints and a brush are provided, though students are encouraged to bring a size 2 round synthetic brush for best results. Perfect for beginners or anyone looking to refine one of the most versatile painting skills.Tickets
Fundamentals of Light in Miniature Painting- An introduction to the essential principles of light in miniature painting. Learn how to establish a light source, understand ambient lighting, and use contrast to create depth, realism, and storytelling. A miniature and paints are provided for use during class. Basic brushes will be available, though students are encouraged to bring a size 2 round brush they are comfortable with. This class offers a clear, approachable foundation for painters looking to improve atmosphere and lighting in their work. Tickets
Paint Your Back Log Lickity Split- A hands-on class focused on painting armies, hordes, and clearing your miniature backlog quickly and effectively. Learn practical techniques that maximize speed while keeping enough detail for great tabletop results. Students will cover batching, efficient layering, and strategies for tackling large groups without feeling overwhelmed. Ideal for D&D NPCs, wargame troops, or any daunting collection. All paints and tools are provided, plus a miniature to keep and a PDF outline for continued practice. Tickets
Airbrush is Not Scary- An Intro to Your First Airbrush- This class is designed to build confidence and understanding in airbrushing for miniature painting. Using a brand new Badger Patriot 105, students will learn how an airbrush works, how to break it down, clean it, and diagnose common issues like clogging, sputtering, and airflow problems. Twitch’s ImpendingDuff (Neil Duffey) guides students step by step, removing the intimidation that keeps many from using airbrushes.
