SECURITY SCREENING GUIDE
Origins Game Fair is a tabletop gaming convention attended by tens of thousands of hobbyists, families, educators, retailers, publishers, artists, and cosplayers.
Many attendees carry hobby-related items that may trigger metal detectors but are not prohibited.
Security personnel knows to expect frequent alarms caused by metal gaming accessories, costume pieces, medical devices, and mobility equipment.
The goal of security screening is to identify and prevent entry of:
Live firearms
Ammunition
Functional weapons
Hazardous materials
Explosives or incendiary devices
Chemical irritants or sprays
Air horns and noise-making devices
Any item that presents a safety risk to attendees or staff
Security screening is NOT intended to prohibit normal convention activities, cosplay, gaming supplies, medical equipment, or accessibility devices.

Science fiction props
All cosplay weapons must be inspected and peace-bonded. If peace-bonded upon arrival by the attendee, security will validate that the Peace Bonding tie is secure.

Peace-bonding is the process of marking a prop as inspected and approved.
Origins uses zip ties to secure approved prop weapons.
The item must me zip tied to remain non functional. For example, prop swords must be peace bonded into a sheath or belt.
The zip tie must remain attached
Removal of the zip tie voids approval

Secure the sword to its sheath using a zip tie that prevents the prop sword from being drawn.

Secure moving components where practical and apply an inspection tie through the trigger guard or another visible location.

Secure the bowstring or otherwise render the bow inoperable while inside the convention.

Apply visible inspection ties to a prominent location on the prop.
The objective is to demonstrate that the item is not immediately usable as a weapon.
All weapons and prop items must be non-functional and comply with event policies
Props may be inspected and must follow venue safety requirements
Costumes must not include active-duty or official service uniforms
All participants must comply with security procedures, including screening requirements
