This presentation explores the confrontation between flexible imaginative play and rigid adherence to rules and expectations. How do we encourage students to imagine beyond their comfort zone when such spontaneous imaginative leaps conflict with previously understood rules of the system? This presentation will introduce listeners to some examples of supportive language and strategies to help neurodivergent or otherwise inflexible thinkers cope with the discomfort of allowing some unpredictability into their social gaming.
