I've been painting miniatures for over 25 years, streaming on multiple platforms for 8 years, and teaching the last 4 years at multiple conventions. My passion is to share this amazing hobby, and encourage my fellow nerds to get as much out of it as possible.

I will be offering multiple classes focusing on specific effects on miniatures of all kinds, staffing the Paint and Take in the main vendor hall, and teaching my classes in room A124 and A125

Tabletop Non-Metallic Metal: Are you frustrated with starting to learn Non-Metallic Metal? Then this is the class for you. We are going to cover the foundational steps of how to paint non-metallic metal. Due to time constraints, the style of NMM covered is simple and stylized, not display-level or hyper-realistic. This effect is a great introduction to the foundations of NMM painting, including high contrast, highlight and shadow placement, and how light reflects off metallic geometric shapes.

Required skills: This is an intermediate-level effect, and students should be comfortable creating blends with techniques such as layering and glazing. A miniature will be provided as well as a detailed handout covering the fundamentals of non-metallic metals. The class will have brushes and paints available, but you are encouraged to bring a quality size 1 or 2 brush.

Painting Healthy, Lustrous Hair: This class is a discussion and practical application of how to paint hair that appears healthy and appropriately reflective. We’ll examine the halo effect light creates on hair, how to place highlights and shadows, and how to pick out strands of hair without it appearing matt or overly plastic.

Requirements: This class is appropriate for novice to intermediate painters comfortable with layering and painting fine lines. All students will receive a miniature to work on in the class. Students are encouraged to bring their paints and brushes if that would be more comfortable, but paints and brushes will be available.

Fast Rust and Corrosion: We’ll cover the types of metals on miniatures and how they naturally corrode. Specifically, we’ll be focusing on the colors each metal turns as it oxidizes or tarnishes and how to apply them quickly. By the end of this class, you will understand what colors to use when painting corroding metals and how to quickly apply them to create a convincing effect on your miniatures no matter the extent of the corrosion you want.

Required skills: This is an effect that is appropriate for newer painters. A miniature will be provided for each student in the class as well as a detailed handout covering the fundamentals for painting rust and corrosion. There will be brushes and paints available for use. If you want to bring your own brush, you are welcome to. I would not recommend using a good quality brush for this class as stippling will quickly damage or even destroy a good brush.
